LESA: Project Information

Implementing LESA ArcView GIS

Steve Rinker and Gina Rodriguez of Monroe County Planning Commission demonstrate a LESA assessment for David Howard, e-Education Institute. The LESA ArcView GIS software is available for distribution at no charge to county officials for use in their farmland preservation programs. A Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture grant absorbs the cost of the software distribution. The greatest challenge to counties interested in implementing the application is the absence of quailty, comprehensive GIS databases required for the assessments.

The staff of Penn State's Land Analysis Lab and Cooperative Extension GIS Program staff can customize the LESA ArcView application to meet the priorities and criteria set forth by individual counties. In addition to the software implementation, the lab's staff can provide technical support to counties in database creation and maintenance.
