Geospatial Technology Outreach and Extension Program
Funding Agency: College of Agricultural SciencesProject Dates: 6/30/02 – 6/30/03
This program has been in operation since May of 2001 and has focused on providing GIS technical assistance to local counties in the state. GIS Needs Assessments have been completed in Fulton, Blair, Westmoreland, Carbon, Wyoming, and Potter counties. A regional assessment has been completed for the Northwestern Planning and Development Commission that included Erie, Crawford, Forest, Warren, Venango, Clarion, Lawrence, and Mercer counties and similar studies are getting started for the Southwestern Planning Commission and the Northeastern Pennsylvania Alliance. In addition to the technical assistance numerous educational presentations have been made to help educate local leaders on Geospatial Technology.
The Penn State Cooperative Extension, Geospatial Technology Program (GTP) Land Analysis Lab is a research,
cooperative extension, and teaching program in the Department of Crop and Soil Sciences at The Pennsylvania State University.
We specialize in the use of GIS and related advanced information system technologies for environmental assessment, agriculture,
and land management and planning.
