About

View Workforce WebsiteThis web-based project is to create an interactive, web-based directory / mapping service for local workforce, community agencies, and youth agencies. This is another project with great expandability potential across the state.

Project Background

The Central Pennsylvania Workforce Development Corporation (CPWDC) is a workforce investment board authorized under the Workforce Investment Act of 1998. CPWDC governs workforce development policy for a nine-county region of Central Pennsylvania (Centre, Clinton, Columbia, Lycoming, Mifflin, Montour, Northumberland, Snyder and Union counties).

In January 2002, the CPWDC released its first edition of the Workforce, Community & Youth Services directory, in hardcopy and on CD-ROM to over 500 agencies who provided information on their services. CPWDC worked closely with Penn State Cooperative Extension and the Workforce Development Resource Center to accomplish this project. The intent of the project was to provide a foundation for identifying the assets and possible gaps of the workforce development system across the region. By creating this tool, CPWDC hoped to boost CareerLink staff knowledge of available resources, improve customer access to services and to inspire relationships among the identified agencies.

An Online Directory that Replaces the Existing Paper Version

This project will build upon the existing static directory by adding an online, interactive, mapping based directory. Access to this system will increase the ability of the CareerLink staff to address customer barriers to employment. Because the directory will be web-based, customers will also be able to take an active role in developing their individual service plans and will have access to the information 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
