Septic Map

Project Dates: 2006-present

Septic Map is a web-based interactive reporting, management and educational application that will dramatically improve the way local governments deal with issues relating to on lot septic systems. Currently the onlot permitting and management process is handled on paper and this data quickly becomes inaccessible both to the local government and the state, in addition to university researchers. With SepticMap all the permitting, maintenance and management data, in both spatial and attribute format will be collected over the internet and placed in an accessible, secure database that will provide storage for years to come.

SepticMap consists of 4 main modules:

  1. Tracking System: Sewage Enforcement Officers (SEO's) can enter data from permits and generate maps for homeowners detailed locational information including GPS location and distances.
  2. Management System: Municipalities can track management programs for onlot septic systems including pumpage history, site inspections and more.
  3. Reporting: Municipalities can generate summary reports that quanitify numbers of permits issued, repairs and other important information. These reports will satisfy Act 537 requirements and will allow municipalities to generate distribution maps that show onlot site distribution across the entire municipality.
  4. Education: An educational module developed for homeowners provides free information regarding onlot systems and relevant laws and regulations.
